Getting the Jump on Leap Year?

Image
From Wikipedia a century ago the traditions were a little different. Actually, I always thought it was more like this: (click on the picture to see the larger version.) But I did learn something - Sadie Hawkins Day doesn't fall on Leap Years - but on the first Saturday after November 9th. Bachelors beware! In the Li'l Abner comic strip, Sadie Hawkins was the daughter of one of Dogpatch's earliest settlers, Hekzebiah Hawkins. When she reached the age of 35, still a spinster, her father in desperation called together the eligible bachelors of Dogpatch and declared that day to be Sadie Hawkins Day and that "when ah fires [my gun] all o' yo' kin start a-runnin! When ah fires agin - after givin' yo' a fair start - Sadie starts a runnin'. Th' one she ketches'll be her husband." The town spinsters decided that this was such a good idea, they made Sadie Hawkins Day an annual event, much to the chagrin of Dogpatch bachelors everywhere.

A Friday Funny from Boobie Pottybrains

MY NEW NAME IS IN THE SUBJECT.....DON'T LAUGH UNTIL YOU FIND OUT WHAT YOUR NEW NAME IS. We all need a little stress-reliever! This only takes a minute. Please don't be a bore & ruin it. Send it on to everyone you know including the person that sent it to you. Sometimes when you have a stressful day or week, you need some silliness to break up the day. If we are honest, we have a lot more stressful days than not. Here is your dose of humour... A. Follow the instructions to find your new name. B. Once you have your new name, put it in the subject box and forward it to friends and family & co-workers. Don't forget to forward it back to the person who sent it to you so they know you participated. And don't go all adult - a senior manager is now known far & wide as Dorky Gizzardsniffer! The following is excerpted from a children's book, Captain Underpants And the Perilous Plot Professor Poopypants, by Dave Pilkey, in which the evil Professor forc...

From the Gods of the Copybook Headings

This is what Warren Kinsella, the blogsphere's whiny school boy par excellent - witness his reaction to Kate's most recent prank - misses in his defense of Human Rights Tribunals.  While playing Spy Smasher all these years, Kinsella has elevated human roaches into grand villains of their own, and his, delusions.  Most Canadians view neo-Nazis and bigots like Phelps as minor and rather pathetic figures, Kinsella sees them everywhere, threatening the good consciousness of our happy land. If something is bad, goes the liberal theory of society and human nature, then ban it.  The central conceit of modern liberalism is that the average person is incapable of governing their own affairs.  Conservatives - including classical liberals - view human beings as generally efficacious and self reliant.  There are exceptions, that are dealt with as exceptions, but generally people can run their own lives.  The Human Rights Tribunals are the culmination of the liber...

"Canadians revel in the romanticism of Trudeau's multiculturalism..."

The mosaic loses to segregation "Canadians revel in the romanticism of Trudeau's multiculturalism..." "My grandmother speaks atrocious English, eats only Chinese food, has only Chinese friends and has been a Canadian citizen for nearly 50 years. "She's citizen of a country where she can't read the local newspaper, can't order pizza, and has no desire to do so. "Can she truly be considered a Canadian citizen?" You bet, because in spite of, or more precisely, because of all that, she still dutifully votes Liberal Party in every single election!

American Thinker: Obama and 'Da Yutes'

American Thinker: Obama and 'Da Yutes' : "Whatever can be said about the Boomers -- that they're obnoxious, lazy, self-centered, arrogant, grandiose, and simply weird (And I'll cop to all the above, to one degree or another), a willingness to forego the spotlight is not part of the mix. Add a near-Irish mulishness, a still-unsatisfied sense of historical mission, and a tendency to react to political pressure in the same fashion as warrior ants and it's clear that they are not going to step out onto the ice floe any time soon. Anyone seeking to build a political movement based on superseding the Boomers will have his hands full right out of the gate at least until a lot more of them are dead and gone."

A Modest iBook proposal

Looking a the new Apple Air laptop, and having an iTouch iPod - I was wondering how long it would be before Apple comes out with a real iBook - just by replacing the keyboard with another iTouch screeen. Using the touch technology on two opposing screens would really make a practical e-book. Plus the virtual keyboard from the software would work well scaled up to a larger key size. Something to thing about, neh?
