This is not what storytelling was meant to be.

Fifty years ago, I began my career as the youngest color darkroom technician and photojournalist at the Calgary Herald, helping transition that historic newsroom from the mechanical weight of hot metal type to offset lithography. I watched physical ink meet paper to create a permanent, tangible record of our shared history. Decades later, as a staff interpreter at Heritage Park, I demonstrated the traditional letterpress techniques of the 1909 Strathmore Standard—a vivid reminder of an era when every word was chosen with deliberate care, set by hand, and pressed into paper with irreversible intent.

After a four-decade career managing complex IT, database, and telecommunications infrastructure, I arrived at a fundamental truth: technology must serve human communication, not cheapen it.
